Bratati Bandopadhyay

Bratati Bandopadhyay is a name associated with pre-eminence in the world of elocution. A Masters in Economics from Calcutta University , Bratati is a household name in Bengal today and has captivated audiences all over the world with her performances. She has popularized elocution among the masses and is passing on the art to the next generation through her institution "Kabbayan", where more than 800 students take recitation classes.

Bratati was drawn towards poetry in early childhood days, memorizing and reciting hundreds of nursery rhymes when she was just 3 years old. While at school, Bratati participated and won many prizes including the first prize for her school at All Bengal Inter School Elocution Contest. She is deeply inspired by the stalwarts and masters of performing arts of yesteryears and today like the great thespian Sambhu Mitra, Kazi Sabyasachi, Nirendra Nath Chakraborty, Sankha Ghosh, Shakti Chattopadhyay, Sunil Gangopadhyay, Purnendu Patrea, Dibyendu Palit and younger generation poets like Subho Dasgupta. She trained in Rabindra Sangeet under Suchitra Mitra. But the greatest inspiration of them all is none other than Gurudeb Rabindranath Tagore.

Bratati has many recitation albums to her name like "Shotoborsho Pore", "Monere Tai Kaho Je", "Jharer Kheya", "Aamar Rabindranath", "Ebong Streer Patra", "Anjali", "Chhuti o Natun Bouthan", "Ebong Raktakarabi", "Mohordi", "Chinna Patra", "Ato Prem Ami Kothai Pabo" and "Chandalika". She has won several awards such as "Kazi Sabyasachi Smriti Britti " for Best Newcomer in the Field of Recitation, " Outstanding Young Person of Calcutta" Award in 1999 for outstanding contributions in the field of Recitation "Best Reciter" Award by Art Forum in 1999, "Bharat Nirman Award "for Elocution and News Reading in 2004, "Best News Reader" Award by Lions Club and Art Forum for the years 1990, 1993 and 1999, "Tin Kanya in the field of Bengali Culture" Award (along with Mamata Shankar for dance and Indrani Sen for music) by "Sanskar Bharati" in 2000 and "Vocational Excellence" Award by Rotary Club in 1999.
